Karl Edward Barnikow, Sr.

Karl Edward Barnikow Sr., 75, residing in Round Rock, TX went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at 12:23am.

Karl was born in Bay City, Michigan on September 1, 1942, to the late Bill and Hattie Barnikow. He was the fourth child of seven children, survived by his sister, Shirley Kruse. He grew up in Bay City and joined the Navy right out of high school.

He met the love of his life, Lauretta (Lori) DeCorte and married her just 3 days later on February 17, 1966. He was a devoted husband and father and raised 3 sons. He served in the Navy as a Gunners Mate for 20 years and retired as a Chief Petty Officer. He worked another 20 years as an Instructor for Great Lakes Naval Base.

He is survived by his three sons, Karl E. Barnikow Jr and wife Tara, Joseph W. Barnikow and wife Berneice, and Kenneth A. Barnikow and wife Ada. He was a loving Grandpa to seven grandchildren, Noah, Laina, Logan, Vanessa, Christopher, Mia, and Kennia.

His family will always remember him as someone who loved fishing and westerns and served his country proudly.

An intimate visitation was held on Sunday, August 26, 2018 at Cook Walden Funeral Home in Cedar Park. At his request, he will be cremated and his ashes spread at a later date when all family members can be together. The family asks that in lieu of flowers that you donate to your local VFW Hall in his honor.

The family is very grateful for all the love, prayers, and support in many heartfelt forms from all of his extended family and friends during this time. We are also very grateful for the amazing care he received with Encompass Hospice the last 2 months, as well as the amazing care he received at Cedar Point Rehab and Wellness Center in Cedar Park.
