Jerry Ward

Funeral services for Jerry Ward, 72, of Lexington, Texas were held on Monday, July 9, 2018 at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings with Rev. Mark Porterfield officiating. Jerry Ward was born on August 27, 1945 in Red Star, Arkansas to Demps and Lydia (Marksberry) Ward. He graduated from Red Star High School. Jerry married Connie Story on August 20, 1983 in Lexington. He was baptized on December 15, 1985 at Lexington United Methodist Church. Jerry worked for the Texas Department of Corrections in Lovelady and then Taylor. After retiring from TDC, he worked for Benetich Construction and the BNSF Railroad. He enjoyed cooking, fishing and building different things. Jerry loved watching sports, especially baseball and Nascar racing. His pride and joy was his grandchildren. Jerry passed away the morning of Thursday, July 5, 2018 at Bastrop Lost Pines Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bastrop. He was preceded in death by his parents, Demps & Lydia Ward; one brother, Dean Ward; one sister, Virginia Van Brunt; his parents-in-law, Melvin & Gladys Story and a sister-in-law, Patricia Story. Jerry is survived by his wife, Connie Ward of Lexington; six children, John Ward, Jackson Ward, Mike Ward, Amanda Ward, Lydia Waters & her husband, Jason and Adam Bradshaw; three grandchildren, Daniel Kirby, Kaitlin Kirby and Austin Bradshaw; one sister, Thelma Neff; one sister-in-law, Betty Durkin and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Pleasant Retreat United Methodist Church in Thorndale or to the charity of one’s choice.
