Lauretta Ann (DeCorte) Barnikow

Laureta (Lori) Ann (DeCorte) Barnikow, 73, residing in Austin, TX went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at 5:02 pm.

Lori was born in Chicago, Illinois on November 3, 1944, to the late Jack W. and Jennie E. DeCorte. She was the oldest of 3 children, survived by her sister, Shirley DeCorte and brother, Jack W. DeCorte Jr. She grew up in Chicago and graduated from Lake View High School and started working as a Secretary.

She met the love of her life, Karl Edward Barnikow Sr. and married him just 3 days later on February 17, 1966 and would have celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary this year. She was a devoted wife and mother and raised 3 sons. She supported her husband during the 20 years he served in the Navy traveling in active duty and another 20 years as he was an instructor for Great Lakes Naval Base. After her sons graduated school she received her Real Estate license until she retired.

She is survived by her husband, Karl E. Barnikow Sr, three sons, Karl E. Barnikow Jr and wife Tara, Joseph W. Barnikow and wife Berneice, and Kenneth A. Barnikow and wife Ada. She was a loving Grandma to seven grandchildren, Noah, Laina, Logan, Vanessa, Christopher, Mia, and Kennia. She is also survived by many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and long-time best friend Eileen Pignotti of Itasca, Illinois.

Her family will always remember her as someone who loved her family and friends dearly and was always there for anyone who needed something.

An intimate Memorial Service was held on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at the home of her oldest son in Round Rock, Tx. We shared photos, stories, and fond memories together as well as a meal she always made for us. There will be another Memorial Service for all of her family and friends in Illinois on Saturday, March 17, 2018 to celebrate her life. The family ask that in lieu of flowers for the service that you do a simple act of kindness to someone in need in remembrance of her.

The family is very grateful for all the love, prayers, and support in many heartfelt forms from all of her extended family and friends during this time. We are also very grateful for the amazing doctors and nurses at North Austin Medical Center, Cornerstone Rehab Center, and Austin Diagnostic Center.
