Willie Mae Meyer

Funeral services for Willie Mae Meyer, 92, of Giddings, were held on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Giddings with Ryan Grube officiating. Burial followed in the Giddings City Cemetery.

Willie Mae (Kroll) Meyer was born on August 20, 1925 in Burton, Washington County, Texas to Albert Ernest Kroll and Frieda (Beckermann) Kroll.

Willie Mae was baptized on November 22, 1925 and was confirmed on March 17, 1940 at the Evangelical Lutheran Emmanuel Church in Greenvine, Texas by Pastor Carl Zieke. Her confirmation verse was Luke 10:42, “One thing is needful. Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.”

She attended Boundary School in Washington County, Texas by riding her horse, Nellie, to and from school.

Willie Mae was united in marriage to Raymond C. Meyer on December 16, 1946 by Siegfried Schroeder in Giddings, Texas. During her working years, she was employed by Koslan Brothers, Becker’s Grocery and Orsag’s in Giddings. Her most enjoyable job was working for Camp Tejas where she worked in the kitchen, cooking, baking and meeting the campers and staff.

Willie Mae enjoyed life and always had a smile and a hug for everyone. She was always willing to lend a helping hand whenever she could.

She was a director with the Giddings Sons of Hermann Lodge #54 and a longtime member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Giddings, where she attended the Women’s Bible Study. She also sang at the nursing homes in Giddings until her health no longer allowed it.

She was blessed to enjoy the celebration of her 90th birthday with family and friends.

Willie Mae passed from this earth into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Baylor Scott and White in Brenham.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert & Frieda Kroll, and step mother, Hilda Kroll; her husband, Raymond C. Meyer; her sister, Bern Nell Meier & her husband, Carl Meier; her brother, Melvin “Buddy” Kroll; and three brothers-in-law: Marvin Meyer & his wife, Wilma Meyer, Lonnie Meyer and Andrew “Cotton” Redkey.

Willie Mae is survived by her son, Rodney Meyer and his wife, Melanie of Giddings; her daughter, Patty Cagle and her husband, Randy of Henderson, Nevada; her six grandchildren, Charlie Meyer of Austin, Randy Meyer and his wife, Lace of Fredericksburg, Tiffany Chew of Henderson, Nevada, Anna Render and her husband, Chris of Henderson, Nevada, Richard Cagle and his wife, Alexa of Henderson, Nevada and Rebecca Youngblood and her husband, Adrian of Las Vegas, Nevada; fourteen great grandchildren; one brother, Quin Dell Kroll & his wife, Jean of Houston; three sisters-in-law, Bobbie Faye Kroll of Brenham, Irene Redkey of Silsbee and Marilyn Meyer of Giddings, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers were Darrell Kroll, Dale Kroll, Keith Kroll, Carlton Meier, David Meyer and Marvin Nolen. Honorary pallbearer was Jerry Redkey.
