Obbie Herman Mack

Obbie Herman Mack, age 86 of Rockdale, Texas, entered into eternal rest Friday, December 22, 2017 in the Scott & White Hospital in Temple.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 30, 2017 in the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Rockdale. Pastor Kenneth M. Morris officiated and Rev. Dr., Jack Teeler delivered the eulogy. Burial followed in the Oak Lawn Cemetery in Rockdale.

Obbie Mack was born March 1, 1931 in Possum Hollow near Tanglewood in Lee County, Texas to Ollie P. and Verse (Mathis) Mack. He attended Sand Hill Baptist Church in Tanglewood and was a faithful member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Rockdale, serving as a deacon since 1960 until his health failed.

On November 18, 1951 he and Pearlie Mae Jones were married in Lee County, Texas. He was a family man and loved spending time with his family and helping Pearlie raise their family.

He served on the Government Housing Board for over 20 years. In 1949, he worked for Santa Fe Railroad for two years and for Railway Express for five years, while doing farm work in-between time to provide for his family. In 1953 he went to work for Alcoa, Rockdale Operations, working as a crane operator for 34 years before retiring.

He was owner of Mack’s Place Barbeque. He loved fishing, hunting, cooking and traveling. He loved to make people laugh; he had a great sense of humor and was the ultimate jokester.

He was preceded in death by a twin daughter, Brenda Faye Mack on March 30, 1956 ( a twin to Bernice Teeler); his parents, Ollie and Versie Mack; five sisters, Olivia Mack-Morrison, Myrtle Mack-McBride, Mable Mack-Jones, Minnie Mack- Maloy and Winnie Mack- Marion; and six brothers, Namen, Earnest, Hinton, Ulysee, L.C. and Reggie Lee Mack.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Pearlie Mack of Rockdale; two sons, Willie Van Mack and wife Chaplain Sheila of Denton, Texas, and Larry D. Mack and wife Mary of Augusta, Georgia; four daughters, Peggy A. Payne and husband Edward of Keller, Texas, Linda C. Thompson of Fort Worth, Texas, Bernice K. Teeler and husband Rev. Dr. Jack of Fort Worth, Texas and Mary Melissa Murray of Fort Worth, Texas; two brothers, Aaron Mack of Lexington, Texas and Bobbie Mack and wife Eve of DeSoto, Texas; 21 grandchildren, 26 greatgrandchildren, 5 great-greatgrandchildren and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and friends.

Serving as pallbearers were Isiah Mack, Michael Thompson, Andrew Mack, Isaac Mack, Ryan Mack, Tony Crawford, Shammah Mack, Rueben Provost and Kevin Wofford.

Honorary pallbearers were Hamilton Mack, Van Mack, Larry Mack, Edward Payne, Donald Ray Davis, Jr., Tony Davis, Billy Ray Smith, Jr., Randall Smith and James Harvey.
