Leonard Julius Meuth

Funeral services for Leonard Meuth, 91, of Giddings, were held on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Giddings with Father Uche Andeh officiating.

Leonard Julius Meuth was born on October 6, 1926 in Pin Oak, Texas to Peter George Meuth and Elonora Mary (Lehman) Meuth. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Pin Oak. He served in the United States Army as a cook with the 967th Ordinance Heavy Automotive Maintenance Company from February 21, 1945 until receiving his Honorable Discharge on December 3, 1946. He obtained the rank of Technician Fourth Grade. Leonard was united in marriage to Rosemary Beck on August 25, 1954 also at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Pin Oak and they were blessed with five children. He owned and operated Meuth Implement Company in Giddings from 1966 until 1988. During this time he was a member of the Giddings Rotary Club, served as president of the Giddings Chamber of Commerce and received the Giddings Chamber of Commerce Businessman of the Year Award. Leonard was also a member of the VFW and the American Legion and was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 8085 in Giddings. He was a faithful member of St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Giddings where he was responsible for the building and yard maintenance for the church for over 30 years. For many years, Leonard helped the Knights of Columbus with their barbeques and was well known for his pinto beans. He enjoyed gardening, playing dominoes and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Leonard passed away the morning of Sunday, December 17, 2017 at Giddings Residence and Rehabilitation Center in Giddings.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Elonora Meuth; one son, Michael Alan Meuth; one sister-in-law, Anna Marie Meuth and one brother-in-law, Floyd Snider.

Leonard is survived by his wife of 63 years, Rosemary Meuth of Giddings; four children, Bobby Meuth & his wife, Linda of Serbin, Catherine Knobloch & her husband, Clyde of Lincoln, Lynnette Davis & her husband, John of Pflugerville and Mark Meuth of Giddings; nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren, Clinton & Katie Meuth of Pin Oak and their children, Anton, Norah & Levi, Joshua & Mary Pearl Meuth of Giddings and their children, Braden, William Cole and Mary Ella, Stefanie & Justin Emmons of Giddings, Valarie & Eugene Miller of Giddings and their children, Casen and Gage, Jordan Davis of Commerce, Michael & Angie Knobloch of Bastrop and their children, Madison, Hannah and Michael Jr., Angela & Chris Williamson of Houston and their son, Tyler, Brian Knobloch of Elizabeth, New Jersey and Scott Knobloch of Carlesbad; two sisters, Imogene Snider of Pin Oak and Mildred Darsey & her husband, Johnny of Pin Oak; one brother, Eugene Meuth of Pin Oak, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers were Brian Knobloch, Michael Knobloch, Clinton Meuth, Joshua Meuth, David Tomas and Jordan Davis.

Memorials may be made to the Knights of Columbus Council 8085 in Giddings or to the charity of one’s choice.
