Edward Emil Kieschnick

Funeral services for Edward Kieschnick, 100, of Manheim, Texas are scheduled for 2:00 PM on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Manheim with Rev. Thomas Obersat, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Edward “Papa Ed” Kieschnick was born on September 18, 1917 in Manheim, Texas to Samuel Friedrich William and Marie(Kaspar) Kieschnick. He was baptized on September 30, 1917 and was confirmed on May 20, 1932 both at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Manheim. He was united in marriage to Hattie Hulda Hedwig Siegmund on October 22, 1939 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lincoln. From this union they were blessed with nine children, Floyd, Milton, Robert, Carol, Dolores, Curtis, Sharon, Ronnie, and Donnie. He was employed for over 20 years by West End Lumber Company in Giddings, but always, for most of his life, he was a farmer and rancher. He raised cotton, grain, cattle and kids on the farm that has been in the Kieschnick family for more than 100 years. He lived in the house in which he was born and raised until his health became a concern. He then lived with several of his children until his failing health and advancing years took him to Oakland Manor Nursing Home for the final 2 years of his life. Even while there, he maintained much of his legendary sense of humor…often telling visitors he “felt good for a young guy” or he “always hoped it was gonna get better when he got a little older.” Always quick with playful banter, he loved making other people laugh, even if it was at his own expense. He was a lifelong member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Manheim where he held numerous offices. He was also a member of the Farm Bureau. Edward enjoyed tending his farm, attending church on Sunday mornings and visiting with his family and friends afterwards.

Edward passed away the morning of Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Oakland Manor Nursing Center in Giddings.
