Myrtle Loree Locklin

Services for Myrtle Loree Locklin, 101, of Lexington, Texas are scheduled for 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 17, 2017 at the Lexington United Methodist Church with Rev. Trey Comstock officiating. Burial will follow in the Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2017 from 8:00 AM until 9:00 PM and on Sunday, December 17, 2017 from 9:30 AM until 12:00 PM at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Lexington, Texas. The family will be present for visitation from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Saturday at the funeral home.

Myrtle Loree (Rodgers) Locklin was born June 24, 1916 in the Phears Community north of Lexington, Texas to Joseph Sorrell Rodgers and Lula Maude (Smith) Rodgers. She attended school in her community and went through the seventh grade. There were no buses to Lexington at that time so she continued classes for three more years and assisted teaching when their teacher was ill. Myrtle was united in marriage to Edward Elijah Locklin on December 19, 1934 in Lincoln, Texas. This union was blessed with three daughters.

Myrtle enjoyed singing in the Lexington United Methodist choir and participating in the United Methodist Women’s group at church. She liked sewing, quilting, gardening, participating in all of Lexington’s events, singing at the Senior Center, visiting with friends and spending time with her family.

Myrtle passed away the morning of Monday, December 11, 2017 in Houston, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Lula Rodgers; her husband, Edward; two daughters, Wiladene Meyer and Jo Ann Clawson; and nine siblings, Bewel Rodgers, Bethel Rodgers, Homer Rodgers, Ruby Leggett, Roy Rodgers, Marvin Rodgers, George Rodgers, Lola Maude “Doll” and Joseph Rodgers.

Myrtle is survived by her daughter, Nell Sherrill and husband David of Houston; six grandchildren, David Edward Sherrill of Houston, Daren Sherrill of Austin, Tammy Lewright and husband Joe of Austin, Timothy Sherrod and wife Emily of Wichita Falls, Gina Knobloch and husband Ewaldt of Paige, and Lori Stiewert of McDade; 18 great grandchildren; 16 great great grandchildren,S as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
