Ellen “Jonnie” Lenore Schulze

Funeral services for Ellen “Jonnie” Schulze, 74, of Giddings, Texas,were held on Sunday, November 26, 2017 at St. John Lutheran Church in Lincoln, Texas with Rev. Dale Bohm officiating.

Ellen Lenore (Woelfel) Schulze was born on December 14, 1942, at her family’s home in Lincoln, Texas, the daughter of Louis August Woelfel Sr. and Pauline Alma (Noack) Woelfel. She was baptized on December 27, 1942 by Rev. Reinhard Osthoff and confirmed on March 25, 1956 by Rev. Herbert Hartfield at St. John Lutheran Church in Lincoln, Texas. Her confirmation verse was John 3:16, “ For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Ellen was united in marriage to Melvin Andrew Schulze on June 11, 1960 at St. John Lutheran Church in Lincoln, Texas by Rev. Henry J. Gerike. She moved with Melvin to Houston where she worked at Foley’s for 20 plus years. They were members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Houston where she volunteered as a youth director and played volleyball. She was actively involved in all of her sons’ activities, helped raise show cattle and served as team mom for many of their sports. Following retirement, Ellen and Melvin moved back to Giddings in 2003. They were faithful members of St. John Lutheran Church in Lincoln. Ellen enjoyed sewing, dancing, especially with her sons, and gardening.

She passed away the evening of Wednesday, November 22, 2017 following a brief stay at Oakland Manor Nursing Center in Giddings.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, Louis & Alma Woelfel; two sisters, Emilie Birnbaum & her husband, Wilbert Sr. and Alice Fischer & her husband, Noah; three brothers, Clarence Woelfel & his wife, Doris, Milton Woelfel and Randolph Woelfel and a sister-in-law, Novalene Woelfel.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Melvin Schulze of Giddings; three sons and daughters-in-law, Marcus & Norma Schulze of Brenham, John & Sonya Schulze of Brenham and Philip & Leslie Schulze of Austin; six grandchildren, Matthew and Megan Schulze both of Tomball, Dalton Schulze of Brenham, Cassie Ogle & her fiancé, Ross Donwerth of Gause and Grace and Quenten Schulze of Austin; five step-great grandchildren, Devyn Holmes, Gavyn Boring, Haivyn Boring and Graclyn Boring all of Gause and Alexis Hennessy of Alabama; three sisters, Vernie Arldt & her husband, E.A. of Paige, Ruth Wachsmann & her husband, Harry of Lincoln and Lorine “Toddie” Patschke & her husband, Monroe of Lincoln; one brother, Louis “Sam” Woelfel Jr. of Thorndale; five sisters-in-law, Mildred Woelfel of Manheim, Marilyn Woelfel of Lexington, Sylvia Beisert & her husband, Billy of Loebau, Bernice Iselt & her husband, Edmund of Giddings and Lucille Wagner & her husband, Glenn of Giddings; three brothers-in-law, James Schulze & his wife, Barbara of Giddings, Monroe “Junior” Schulze & his wife, Hattie of Giddings and Clyde Schulze & his wife, Cathy of Lexington, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the St. John Lutheran Cemetery Fund in Lincoln or to the charity of one’s choice.
