Barbara Ann Schultz

Funeral services for Barbara Schultz, 65, of Ledbetter, Texas, were held on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings with Rev. Chris Nietubicz officiating.

Barbara Ann Urban Schultz was born on August 29, 1952 in La Grange, Texas, the daughter of Vernon Walter Urban and Adele Ruth (Zoch) Urban. She was baptized on September 14, 1952 and confirmed on April 6, 1966 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings by Rev. Emil Krugler. Her confirmation verse was Psalm 46:1, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” Barbara was united in marriage to Glenn Schultz on October 8, 1977 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings by Rev. Robert Koenig. She was employed as the principal’s secretary at Giddings High School for many years before retiring in 2012. Barbara was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she had helped with the Ladies Aid and also assisted with the Meals on Wheels program in Giddings. She enjoyed taking care of her cats and taking an occasional gambling trip. After her father’s death in 1966, Barbara took care of her brothers and sisters while her mother worked two jobs to make ends meet earning her the nickname, “sister-mama”. Her family was everything to her and she cherished the time they were able to spend together. Barbara will be remembered for her smile, laughter and always putting others first.

Barbara passed away the evening of Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at her home in Ledbetter following a hard fought battle against cancer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Adele Urban; her sister, Dianna Haschke and three brothers, Donald Urban, Victor Urban and Johnnie Urban.

Barbara is survived by her husband of nearly 40 years, Glenn Schultz of Ledbetter; two sisters, Cathy Siegeler & her husband, Mike of Giddings, and Darlene Spacek & her husband, Rocky of Ledbetter; three brothers, Ronnie Urban & his wife, Debbie of Cypress, Gene Urban & his wife, Karen of Giddings, and Kenny Urban & his wife, Fran of Giddings; her nephew, who was more like a brother, Chris Haschke & his wife, Debbie of Diboll; one sister-in-law, Karen Eickenhorst & her husband, Bill of Brenham; three brothers-in-law, Larry Haschke of Dallas, Randy Schultz & his wife, Patty of Burton, and Danny Schultz & his wife, Donna of Brenham, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or School, 300 North Grimes Street, Giddings, Texas 78942, or to the charity of one’s choice.
