Jo Ann Marilyn Lange

Funeral services for Jo Ann Lange, 76, of Warda, Texas, were held on Friday, September 29, 2017 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Warda with Rev. Dennis Tegtmeier officiating.

Jo Ann Marilyn (Teinert) Lange was born on February 8, 1941 in La Grange, Texas, the daughter of John Herman Teinert and Renata Clara (Jurk) Teinert. She was baptized on February 16, 1941 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Warda by Rev. Paul C. Eifert and confirmed on April 3, 1955 also at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Warda by Rev. John L. Herzog. Her confirmation verse was Psalm 27:4, “One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple”. As a young girl growing up on the family farm in Warda, Jo Ann picked cotton alongside her parents and sister, Carolyn. Jo Ann and Carolyn worked together to poke wires through a stationary baler to make square bales of peanut hay. She also sewed many peanut sacks. Jo Ann was named Fayette County Farm Bureau Queen in 1958. She began her education in a one room public school house in Warda before attending Holy Cross Lutheran School in Warda. She attended Giddings High School for two years and graduated from La Grange High School in 1959. She continued her education at Durham Business School in Austin and received a diploma as a computer programmer. Jo Ann then went to work at the University of Texas at Austin and later at Brenham Wholesale as a programmer.

Jo Ann was united in marriage to Robert “Bill” William Lange Sr. on February 4, 1961 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church by Rev. H.O. Hartfield. She was a lifelong member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church where she had been a member of the Ladies Aid and had sang in the choir. Jo Ann ultimately became a homemaker. She took great pride in making and sharing her homemade dill pickles. She loved spending time with her five grandchildren. Billy and Jo Ann enjoyed spending time at Warda Store visiting with friends and ended each day driving around their pasture to look over their cattle and watch for deer.

Jo Ann passed away the afternoon of Monday, September 25, 2017 at Memorial Herman Hospital in Katy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John & Renata Teinert; her husband of 55 years, Robert “Bill” William Lange Sr.; her parents-in-law, C.E. “Gene” & Earle Adair “Potsy” Lange; her brother-in-law, Frank Herbert and her sister-in-law, Donna Lange.

Jo Ann is survived by her three sons, Robbie Lange of Georgetown, Kevin Lange & his wife, Sandra of Cypress and Patrick Lange & his wife, Meghan of Bryan; five grandchildren, Trey, Asa & Grace Lange of Georgetown and Alexa & Raina Lange of Cypress; two sisters, Carolyn Butler & her husband, Woody of Johnson City and Delores Herbert of La Grange; her brother-in-law, Gary Lange & his wife, Ruby of Brenham; her sister-in-law, Dee Glaesmann & her husband, Larry of Brenham, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Faith Lutheran High School in Warda or to the charity of one’s choice.
