Dorothy Lee Margaret Miller

Funeral services for Dorothy Miller, 87, of Giddings, were held on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings with Rev. Robert Tiner officiating.

Dorother Lee Margaret (Mutschink) Miller was born on November 11, 1929 in Manheim, Texas, the daughter of Walter Louis Mutschink and Mathilda Martha (Schulze) Mutschink. She was baptized on November 24, 1929 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Giddings by Rev. William Mueller and confirmed on April 18, 1943 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings by Rev. Max Studtmann. Her confirmation verse was Psalm 143:10, “Teach me to do Your will, For You are my God; Your Spirit is good. Lead me in the land of uprightness”. Dorothy was united in marriage to Harold Douglas Miller on July 4, 1950 at St. John Lutheran Church in Hot Springs, New Mexico by Rev. E.C. Kettler. She was a loving and devoted homemaker and an excellent cook. Dorothy’s life and heart was always focused on the church. She took great pride in the fact that both of her sons became pastors. Dorothy and Doug helped to start a mission church while living in Mineral Wells and Dorothy was a lifelong Sunday school teacher who also taught confirmation classes. She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings where she helped to start the local nursing home ministry which provided weekly devotional services to nursing home residents.

Even as her health continued to fail during the past few years, Dorothy remained strong in her faith. She was finally granted the heavenly homecoming she looked forward to when she fell asleep in Jesus the morning of Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at the Giddings Residence and Rehabilitation Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter & Mathilda Mutschink; one sister, Frances Sykora and one brother, Wilbert Mutschink.

Dorothy is survived by her husband of 67 years, Doug Miller of Giddings; two sons, Rev. Chad Miller & his wife, Darla of Sugarland and Rev. Kirk Miller & his wife, Tina of Westminster, Colorado; six grandchildren, Galan Miller & his wife, Claudia of Houston, Bree Galloway & her husband, Jordan of Houston, Deidre Birge & her husband, Nathan of Houston, Michal Miller of Houston, Darsa Miller of Houston and Bethany Brenes & her husband, Riley of Mobile, Alabama; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Gladys Namken of Giddings and Jane Ray & her husband, Robert of Giddings; one brother, Bobby Mutschink & his wife, Mary of Giddings; one sister-in-law, Nancy Lambert of Giddings; one brother-in-law, James Sykora of Richardson, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church Stained Glass Fund, the Immanuel Lutheran Church Christian Care Ministry, or to the charity of one’s choice.
