Samuel “Bucky” Oneil Buckner

Bucky Buckner, 67, of Chandler, Arizona, passed away on August 19, 2017 from sudden liver failure.

Bucky was born in Sumter, South Carolina on July 16, 1950. He was a life-long learner, eventually receiving a Master of Divinity Degree from Phoenix Seminary.

Bucky was a licensed private contractor with his own painting business, Skilkote. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, falconry, sci-fi movies and spending time at the cabin he and his wife built in the community of Heber- Overgaard.

He would also use any excuse to gather for a big family meal.

Bucky was actively involved in ministry at Grace Community Church, most recently helping with the “Shine” Adult Disability Class.

Over the years, he has also served in Children’s Ministries, as a Small Group Leader, New Freedom Counselor, Elder and wherever help was needed (car care clinic, lodge maintenance, painting, etc.).

Bucky is survived by his wife, Karen and his two children, Tyler Buckner with his wife, Ashlee, and Jared Buckner; his grandchildren, Landon and Ella; his sister Vicky Underwood; and 2 brothers, Carter and Patrick Buckner. Bucky is also survived by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Nancy and Frank Newkirk of Lexington. Bucky is preceded in death by his sister, Rita.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to fund ministry to international students (ISI & Bridges). Indicate “Buckner Memorial” on donations with checks written to GCC.
