Willard Wesley Burgdorf

Funeral services for Willard Burgdorf, 84, of Giddings, were held on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in Giddings with Rev. Tim Edwards officiating.

Willard Wesley Burgdorf was born on October 14, 1932 on the family farm in Hills, Texas, the son of John August Burgdorf Sr. and Viola Grace (Hill) Burgdorf. He passed to his eternal life on Sunday, June 18, 2017 at St. David’s South Austin Medical Center. Willard was united in marriage to Frances Prinz on December 3, 1960 at the First United Methodist Church in Giddings. They were blessed with three children, Beverly Jo, John Wesley and Kristina Marie. He worked on the family farm before going to work for Ham Hannes building homes. He later went to work for Droemer Construction Company until retiring in 1993 following an accident in which he suffered severe burns. Following a two month hospital stay and months of therapy, Willard went back to work doing small repair jobs for several years. He was a lifelong member of the Methodist church where he had served on the board of trustees, the church council and sang in the choir. He was also a member of the Giddings Breakfast Lions Club. Willard was an avid sports fan and loved watching and attending Texas Longhorn Baseball games. He also enjoyed playing dominoes. He was proud of his family and his grandchildren were the joy of his life. Willard loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting and school events.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his infant daughter, Beverly Jo Burgdorf; his brother, Sterling Burgdorf Sr.; his sister, Eunice Glidden; his inlaws, Ernest & Minnie (Kiphen) Prinz; his sisters-in-law, Ruth Burgdorf, Erna Henze & her husband, Arthur, Ella Robertson & her husband, J.O. and Katie Vaughan & her husband, Bill, and his brothers-in-law, Buddy Prinz, Alton Prinz, Walter Prinz & his wife, Kathryne, Howard Prinz and Clarence Prinz & his wife, Gladys.

Willard is survived by his wife of 56 years, Frances Burgdorf of Giddings; two children, John Wesley Burgdorf & his wife, Rebecca and their children, Kailey and Brandon of Giddings, and Kristina Burgdorf and her daughter, Kamryn Menard of Elgin; his brother, J.A. Burgdorf of Arlington; his sister, Rosa Lee Breedlove of Branson, Missouri; his sister-in-law, Jo Ann Prinz of Elgin; several nieces and nephews, as well as special friends, Don and Pat Backen of Lincoln.

Serving as pallbearers were Don Backen, Wayne Burgdorf, John Elick, Bradley Nelson, Joe Nelson, Doug Prinz, Jason Sherrill and Larry Skinner. Honorary pallbearers were Kailey Burgdorf, Brandon Burgdorf, Kamryn Menard, Pat Backen and Rebecca Sherrill.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Giddings, the St. Paul Lutheran School in Serbin, or to the charity of one’s choice.
