Walter “Steve” Tumlinson Sr.

Graveside services for Walter “Steve” Tumlinson Sr., 68, of Dime Box, Texas, were held on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Dime Box with Tim Pitts officiating.

Walter Steve Tumlinson was born on October 26, 1948 in El Campo, Texas, the son of Willie Delbert Tumlinson Sr. and Opal (Fellars) Tumlinson. He and Joan (Steinbach) Tumlinson had been married since May of 1976. Throughout his life, Steve worked as a shrimper, in the oil field and as a welder. He enjoyed dominoes, playing practical jokes and caring for animals, especially birds and his rabbits. He loved to make things and figuring out ways to fix things. He enjoyed woodworking and building things such as picture frames, jewelry boxes and things that he thought anyone may enjoy. He sold watermelons in the summertime, pecans during the holidays and operated a swine holding facility. He made many wonderful friends along the way.

Steve passed away the afternoon of Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at the Hospice Brazos Valley Inpatient Facility in Bryan, Texas following a battle with cancer.

He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Tumlinson Sr.; his brother, Willie Tumlinson Jr.; and his parents-in-law, Otto and Dorothy Steinbach.

Steve is survived by his wife, Joan Tumlinson; his mother, Opal Tumlinson Dunhon; six children, Jackie Isham, Kelley Herrington, John Johnson & his wife, Nuvia, Walter Tumlinson Jr., Rachel Fulton and Stephen Johnson & his wife, Misty; ten grandchildren; five great grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Zemito & her husband, Jimmy, Joyce Romero & her husband, Adam, and Elizabeth Ashworth-Beard; three brothers, Charlie Tumlinson & his wife, Sabrina, Richard Tumlinson & his wife, Donna, and John Tumlinson; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carol & Bobby Cohn, as well as several nieces, nephews and friends.
