Ruby Gertrude Stiewert

Funeral services for Ruby Stiewert, 95, of Paige, Texas were held on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings with Rev. Lee Eschberger officiating.

Ruby Gertrude Stiewert was born in the Paint Creek area north of Paige on October 20, 1921, the oldest child of Herman J. and Lina (Schmidt) Eschberger. She was baptized on January 1, 1922 by Pastor F. Gerstmann at Paint Creek Lutheran Church. She was confirmed on April 2, 1939 at St. John Lutheran Church in Paige by Pastor Koeppe. Ruby married Alfred Stiewert on June 8, 1947 at St. John Lutheran Church in Paige. Ruby and Alfred made their home north of Paige and were engaged in farming and ranching.

Ruby always planted a large garden to provide food for their family and to share with others. It delighted her to provide advice to her grandchildren and great grandchildren on the act of gardening. She was also an avid flower gardener. She also enjoyed baking bread, coffee cakes and pies, and sewing hand made quilts to share with her family. Ruby also enjoyed looking after her cows and seeing the new baby calves.In later years of her life, Ruby met Neva Winfrey. They became very close friends and were traveling buddies.

Ruby passed away the morning of Monday, May 29, 2017 at St. Mark’s Medical Center in La Grange.

Ruby is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alfred; son, Marvin; grand daughter, Cassandra Stiewert; sister, Erna Herms and brother, Leroy Eschberger.

Ruby is survived by her children, Ila Mae Armstrong and her husband, Gene of Smithville, Ora Nell Koehler of Lockhart, and Delbert Stiewert and his wife, Kim of Paige; grandchildren, Brian Armstrong, Bradley Armstrong and his wife Angie, Melissa DeLeon and her friend Joey, Michelle Drozd and her husband Leslie, Michael Koehler and his wife Misty, Sheena Hart and her husband Michael, Shaun Stiewert, and Tammy Visage and her husband Jeff; great grandchildren, MaCaylee, Weslee and Marlee DeLeon, Dustin and Zoey Armstrong, Hailey, Hannah and Haven Drozd, Avery Koehler, Quinten Hart, Allie Stiewert, and Jordan and Michael Visage; brother, Harry Eschberger and his wife, Gertrude of Paige, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Paint Creek or the Paint Creek Cemetery Association.

The family would like to thank Angie and Bradley Armstrong for the care given to their grandma over the past ten months since her stroke. They would also like to thank the doctors and nursing staff at St. Mark’s Medical Center in La Grange for the care given to Ruby.
