Edsell “Ed” Elliott

Funeral services for Edsell “Ed” Elliott, 87, of Giddings, were held on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at St. John Lutheran Church in Lincoln, Texas with Rev. Dale Bohm officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the Giddings American Legion York Post 276, immediately followed in the church cemetery.

Edsell Elliott was born on October 9, 1929 in Pontotoc, Mississippi, the son of Jack & Ollie (Young) Elliott. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and received his Honorable Discharge on January 6, 1955. Ed was united in marriage to Allene (Karcher) Harrison on June 1, 1957 at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Houston by Rev. Edwin Keiper. He was also baptized and confirmed at St. Mark Lutheran Church. While living in Houston, Ed worked as a route distributor with Schlitz Beer and Borden Ice Cream. After he and Allene retired and moved back to Giddings, he worked at Josh Marshall Chevrolet and was a school bus driver at St. John Lutheran School in Lincoln. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Lincoln, the Lincoln Community Club and had been a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, working in his yard, woodworking and playing the guitar and had played in a band when he was younger.

Ed passed away suddenly the evening of Monday, May 22, 2017 at his home near Giddings.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Donny Harrison; his son-in-law, Randy Smith; two sisters, Christine Reeves and Delores Traywick and five brothers, Orsel Elliott, Lemoise Elliott, Vergil Elliott, Howard Elliott, Alfred Elliott and Leo Elliott.

Ed is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Allene Elliott of Giddings; eight children, Dan Elliott & his wife Roxanne of Joplin, MO, Mac Elliott of Nashville, TN, Lee Elliott, Glenda Curtin of Houston, Brenda Maupin & her husband, Jim of Cypress, Shelia Smith of Houston, Tammy Barna of Houston and Kathy Carrigan & her husband, Mike of Tomball; one daughter-in-law, Debbie Harrison of Temple; seven grandchildren, Jason Curtin & his wife, Marilee of Conroe, Hannah Waid & her fiancé, Zachary Schilleci of The Woodlands, Joshua Waid of Tomball, Bryan Smith & his wife, Jasmine of Houston, Blake Smith of Englewood, CO, Emily Barna of Austin and Tyler Barna of Murphy, as well as several other grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Dace Bockel & her husband, Bud of Houston and Betty Elliott of Tupelo, MS and one brother, Cleo Elliott & his special friend, Sarah of Willis.

Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church in Lincoln, or to the charity of one’s choice.
