Cody James Mitschke

“Don’t cry for me when I’m gone. Keep the faith and be strong. ‘Cause through it all I’ve been blessed. I faced my fears and I’ve passed the test. So when you look up in the sky on a sunny day, imagine me drifting away” - Blackhawk

Funeral services for Cody Mitschke, 16, of Giddings, Texas, were held on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings with Rev. Robert Tiner and Rev. Chris Nietubicz officiating.

Cody James Mitschke was born on February 1, 2001 in Austin, Texas, the son of Eddie & Daina (Deal) Mitschke. He was baptized on February 25, 2001 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings by Rev. Wilbern Michalk and was confirmed on April 26, 2015 also at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings by Rev. Robert Tiner. His confirmation verse was Matthew 28:20, “teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. His self-confidence allowed him to not be afraid to try anything at least once. Cody enjoyed doing anything outdoors including fishing, shooting his guns and riding his indestructible 4-wheeler. He was happiest when he was spending time with his family and hanging out with his friends. He planned on joining the United States Marines following his high school graduation in 2019.

On April 19, 2017, while doing what he loved, Cody suffered severe injuries in an ATV accident near Giddings. After a hard fought battle, and surrounded by the love and support of his family and friends, Cody peacefully passed away the afternoon of Monday, May 15, 2017 at UMC Brackenridge Hospital in Austin.
