Maxine Junell Meyer

Funeral services for Maxine Meyer, 90, of Dime Box, Texas were held on Friday, May 5, 2017 at St. John Lutheran Church in Dime Box with Rev. Roger Millheim officiating.

Maxine Junell (Riske) Meyer was born to Edward & Hattie (Hannes) Riske on December 2, 1926 in McAllen, Texas. Maxine was confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Dime Box by Pastor Walter Tillsman and she graduated from Dime Box High School in 1943. Maxine was united in marriage to Charles Alton Meyer on November 13, 1948 at St. John Lutheran Church in Dime Box by Rev. S.T. Schroeder. Charles and Maxine moved to Houston where she was employed at Western Auto as a bookkeeper for 35 years. In 1983, Maxine and Charles moved back to Dime Box where they built their home and Maxine worked for Riske’s Dry Goods. They were members of St. John Lutheran Church in Dime Box where they both sang in the choir. She loved her yard and her flowers and also fed many baby birds that were abandoned before turning them back into the wild.

Maxine passed away during the early morning hours of Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at CHI St. Joseph Health Regional Hospital in Bryan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward & Hattie Riske; her husband, Charles Meyer; three sisters, Ruby Sharp, Mae Jones, and Carrie Novak and two brothers, Frank Riske and Max Riske.

Maxine is survived by her sister, Florice Vavra of Dime Box; one nephew, Thomas Sharp & his wife, Brenda of Dime Box and one niece, Carol Thacker of Houston.

Memorials may be made to the St. John Lutheran Cemetery Fund or to the charity of one’s choice.
