Pedestrian Struck by Vehicle

On Tuesday, April 11, at about 1 p.m., Patsy Hurst Christiansen, 80 of Paige, was driving her 2007 Mercury Mariner in a parking lot on the south side of the 700 block of East Brenham in Giddings. At that same time, Susan Faye Karish, 50 of Giddings, was getting out of her car in the same parking lot. It was raining heavily and Karish was using an umbrella.

According to the accident report, Karish stepped from her vehicle and started walking across the street in a north bound direction. Christiansen was leaving the parking lot, intending to travel west bound on East Brenham, and hit Karish.

Christiansen told the investigating officer, Jimmy Webber with the Giddings Police Department, that she saw Karish standing next to her vehicle, but never saw her begin to walk across the street until she hit her.

Karish was in violation of Transportation Code 552.005 and Christiansen was in violation for driver’s inattention and for failing to keep a proper lookout while leaving a parking lot.

Karish was taken by Lee County EMS to St. Marks Hospital in La Grange with non-incapacitating injuries.
