Ruth Marilyn Markert

Funeral services for Ruth Markert, 80 of Giddings, were held on Friday, April 7, 2017 at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Manheim, Texas with Rev. Carl Roth officiating.

Ruth Marilyn (Drosche) Markert was born on February 18, 1937 in Lexington, Texas, the daughter of Gussie & Amanda (Kaiser) Drosche. She was baptized on February 28, 1937 at St. James Lutheran Church in Lexington by Rev. George Kautz and confirmed on May 20, 1951, also at St. James Lutheran Church in Lexington, by Rev. Henry Stroebel. Ruth was united in marriage to Roland Harold Markert on August 18, 1956 at St. James Lutheran Church in Lexington, Texas by Rev. Herbert Hartfield. She and Roland lived in Houston for many years where they were members of Concordia Lutheran Church. Ruth was the secretary for Markert Brothers Drywall and worked in the cafeteria at Cypress Fairbanks I.S.D. for 18 years. She was an excellent cook and always made sure everyone was well fed. Ruth also enjoyed fishing, gardening, canning and taking care of her plants and flowerbeds. She cherished the time she was able to spend with her family, especially her children and grandchildren.

Ruth was surrounded by her family when she passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at her home in Giddings.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gussie & Amanda Drosche.

Ruth is survived by her husband of 60 years, Roland Markert of Giddings; her son and daughter-in-law, Greg & Lori Markert of Giddings; her daughter and son-in-law, Paula & Carl Berry of Houston; five grandchildren, Christi Pitts & her husband, Steve of Giddings, Kayla Markert of Giddings, Brandon Berry of Houston, Amber Ahrens & her husband, Michael of Houston and Amy Markert of Lexington; two great grandchildren, Bayley Pitts and Daylin Pitts both of Giddings; one brother, Freddie Drosche & his wife, Melba of Giddings; one sister, Frances Riske & her husband, William of Houston, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the charity of one’s choice.
