Giddings PD Arrests Early Morning Burglars

Foot pursuit results in two being arrested trying to enter through a window

Officer Johnathan Richardson with Giddings Police Dept. responded to a Burglary in Progress at a small engine repair shop located at 200 S. Burleson St. At approximately 12:20 am, a witness reported that the suspects were observed entering the building through a broken window. When Officer Richardson arrived, the suspects took off running towards Hwy 290, resulting in a foot pursuit. Assistance was called in and Sheriff Meyer, Sgt Ray, Deputy Nurse and Deputy Nelson responded. After a short pursuit, Aidan Halmai (17) from League City, Tx. was chased down and captured. His cell phone was then used to convince the other suspect, Andrew Anguiamo (18) also from League City, to surrender and return for arrest. It is not known why the two were in town since League City is more than 132 miles from Giddings. They told officers that they were “interested in architecture” since the building was the old peanut warehouse.

Both suspects were arrested and taken into custody and booked into the Lee County Jail.
