Gertrude Louise Schmidt

Funeral services for Gertrude Schmidt, 93, of Northrup, Texas were held on Monday, April 3, 2017 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin, Texas with Rev. John Schmidt officiating.

Gertrude Louise Schmidt was born on October 6, 1923 in Lincoln, Texas to Arthur Henry & Mathilda Emma (Weiser) Sander. She was baptized on October 21, 1923 at St. John Lutheran Church in Lincoln by Rev. Reinhard Osthoff. She confirmed her faith by the Rite of Confirmation on April 10, 1938 also at St. John Lutheran Church in Lincoln by Rev. Reinhard Osthoff. Her confirmation verse was Revelation 3:20, “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” Gertrude was united in marriage to Edwin Schmidt on October 24, 1948 at St. John Lutheran Church in Lincoln by Rev. Theodore Schmidt. This union was blessed with four children, Edwin Jr., Robert, Kathy, and David. Gertrude was a member of St. John Lutheran in Lincoln and transferred her membership to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin on January 1, 1950. Gertrude enjoyed quilting, working in her garden, baking, making noodles, doing word search puzzles, and lived for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Gertrude passed away the afternoon of Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Oakland Manor Nursing Center in Giddings, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edwin Schmidt Sr.; one great grandson, Tyler Schmidt; two brothers and one sister.

Gertrude is survived by her four children, Edwin H. Schmidt Jr. and his wife, Barbara of Northrup, Robert B. Schmidt and his wife, Diane of Lincoln, Kathy Mumm and her husband, Rev. David of Northrup, and David C. Schmidt and his wife, Karen of Serbin; twenty three grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; one sister, Lorine Kurio of Giddings, as well as other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Church Building Fund, 1572 County Road 211, Giddings, Texas 78942, or to the charity of one’s choice.
