George Hewer

Funeral services for George Hewer, age 91 of Lexington are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 24, 2017 at St. John Lutheran Church in Thorndale. Burial will follow in the Adina Cemetery near Lexington. Pastor Mel Swoyer of St. John Lutheran Church will officiate. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 23rd at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

George was a son of Henry James and Catherine Magdalena (Stall) Hewer. He was born January 15, 1926 in Seguin, Texas. He was a graduate of Rogers High School and served in the Air Force 1944 to 1946 where he was honorably discharged as a Corporal.

On June 23, 1950 he and Nora Lee O’Bier were married in the 14 Street Baptist Church in Houston. Over 40 years he worked as an Electrotyper and Electrotyper foreman with Sam Ross McElreath Electrotypers in Houston.

George has lived in Lexington the past two years. He was a very private person, no time to sit around and talk when he could go out and find something to repair. He was very frugal until it came to buying land for investments.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Lilly Kate Wusterhausen and Annie Bennight.

Surviving are his wife, Nora Hewer of Lexington; son, Gary Hewer and wife Sue of Lexington; four grandchildren, Lori Zaunbrecher and husband Vincent of Tomball, TSgt David Hewer and wife Heather of Tokyo, Japan, Stephen Hewer of Dublin, Ireland and Elizabeth Hewer of San Marcos; four greatgrandchildren, Jaxson Zaunbrecher, Jase Zaunbrecher, John Hewer and Mark Hewer.

Serving as pallbearers are, Vincent Zaunbrecher, Carl O’Bier, Jimmy Keen, Brayden Keen, Ethan Pollock.

His quote was “If you can’t fix it, you don’t need to own it.”
