Arthur “Sonny” Mitschke

Funeral services for Arthur “Sonny” Mitschke, 88 of Giddings, were held on Monday, March 20, 2017 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Giddings with Rev. Jeremy Walloch officiating.

Bernhard Arthur Oswald “Sonny” Mitschke was born on May 17, 1928 in the Beat Five Community in Lee County, Texas to Oswald Adolph Mitschke and Emma Marie (Benad) Mitschke. He was baptized on June 28, 1928 at Christ Lutheran Church in Loebau by Rev. Carl Durow and confirmed on July 5, 1942 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dime Box by Rev. Herbert Hartfield. Sonny graduated from Dime Box High School. He was united in marriage to Annie Marie Winter on September 5, 1948 by Rev. S.T. Schroeder. He went to work for the LCRA and retired after 43 years from Bluebonnet Electric on May 31, 1990. Sonny was an active member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Giddings where he had served in various positions and on the church council. He was a member of the Giddings Masonic Lodge for over 50 years, served on the Giddings I.S.D. school board for over 10 years and he and Marie volunteered with the Meals on Wheels program for many years. Sonny enjoyed raising cattle, gardening, fishing and hunting. He was a true Longhorn fan and enjoyed watching them play.

Sonny passed away the afternoon of Friday, March 17, 2017 at the Wesleyan at Scenic Memory Care in Georgetown.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marie Mitschke; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Charlie & Amanda Mitschke and Walter & Ella Mitschke; six sisters and brothers-in-law, Gertrude & Albert Nimtz, Minnie & Edwin Nimtz, Ella & E.B. Schaefer, Rose & John Davenport, Leona & Isedor Knippa and Rubylee & Charles “Bubba” Rost; one brother-in-law, Marvin T. Mitschke; his parents-in-law, Louis & Minnie Winter and two sisters-in-law, Lorene Winter and Mamie Hayden & her husband, Elmer.

Sonny is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Linda & Ralph Mutscher of Giddings; his son and daughter-in-law, Larry & June Mitschke of Spring; four grandchildren, Jeff & Brandi Mutscher of Giddings, Travis & Laurie Mutscher of Round Rock, Ty Mitschke of Houston and Erica Mitschke of Spring; five great grandchildren, Mikayla Mutscher of Austin, Landry Mutscher of Giddings, Jase Mutscher of Giddings, Austin Mutscher of Round Rock and Jackson Mutscher of Round Rock; one sister, Mickey Mitschke of Giddings, as well as many nieces and nephews.
