Reba LaVern Whitehead

Funeral services for Reba Whitehead, 89 of Giddings, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings with Rev. Fred Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Giddings City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 9, 2017 from 7:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The family will be present for visitation from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.

Reba LaVern (Hall) Whitehead was born on February 23, 1928 in Wellsville, Missouri, the daughter of Robert & Marble (Gordon) Hall. She graduated from Wellsville High School. Reba was united in marriage to Richard “Dick” Whitehead on July 30, 1950 in Troy, Missouri. Reba and Dick owned and operated D & R Sales, a metal building company, in Corpus Christi for many years before retiring and moving to Giddings. Reba enjoyed gardening, quilting, sewing and spending time outside. She was an avid reader who also enjoyed politics.

Reba passed away the evening of Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at St. Mark’s Medical Center in La Grange.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert & Mable Hall; her husband of 59 years, Richard “Dick” Whitehead; an infant brother and a great nephew, Cody Jorgeson.

Reba is survived by her two daughters, Sue & Roland Hurst of Houston and Janet Whitehead & Joseph Pilkinton of San Marcos; four grandchildren, Keith & Toni Clayton of Cypress, Adam Clayton of Mexico, Jonathan Hurst of Austin and Andrew Hurst of Washington, D.C.; three great grandchildren, Violet, Cole and Iram; one niece, Barbara Jorgensen of California; two nephews, Scott & Margaret Whitehead of Austin and Travis Whitehead of Brownsville; one great niece, Chrissie & Brent Piercey of Cedar Park & their children, Walker & Charlotte; two great nephews, Curt Jorgensen of California and Jeremy Whitehead of Arkansas, as well as other relatives and friends.
