Nova Jean Thompson

Funeral services for Nova Thompson, 92, of Granbury and formerly of Giddings, are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings with Rev. Steve Knott officiating.

Nova Jean (Venable) Thompson was born on November 24, 1924 in Madisonville, Texas, the daughter of Preston and Mary Alice (Mize) Venable. She married Andrew J. Thompson, Jr. on May 1, 1940 in Madisonville. During WWII, Nova worked as a machinist making gun barrels with Hughes Tool. She had also worked at Foley’s and Weingarten’s Grocery. Nova volunteered in the infant care unit at Ben Taub Hospital in Houston for many years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she was a member of the grief committee. Nova was an avid reader, who enjoyed taking care of her flowers and gardening, bird watching, cooking, running the family shrimp boat, fishing and catching crappie and taking care of her husband, children and grandchildren.

Nova passed away the morning of Sunday, February 26, 2017 at the Oaks of Granbury in Granbury.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her great granddaughter, Ciera Rawlin, and eight siblings.

Nova is survived by her three children, Thomas Thompson & his wife, Gwendolyn of Granbury, Pamela Fox of San Antonio, and Andrea Foshea & her husband, Timothy of Glen Rose; seven grandchildren, Pamela Adams of Houston, Andrea Swift & her husband, Larry of Illinois, Belinda Kline & her husband, Tony of Arlington, Robert Gaas & his wife, Marlena of Mississippi, Laura Fox-Hight of San Antonio, Richard Foshea & his wife, Kimberly of New Mexico and Carrie Tirado & her husband, Victor of Houston; eleven great grandchildren, Rickey Adams of Houston, Micayla Adams of Houston, Robert Foshea of Conroe, Andrew Foshea of College Station, Aaden Tirado of Houston, Ricky Dale Gass of Arkansas, Colby Gaas of Mississippi, Robby Gaas of Mississippi and Marlee Gaas of Mississippi, Greg Rawlin of Tennessee and Kirkland Simpson of Arkansas; two great, great granddaughters; one brother, Rex Venable of Arp, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 600 Sunrise Avenue, Giddings, Texas, or to the charity of one’s choice.
