Olefia Bertha Augusta Maass Saegert

Funeral services for Olefia Saegert, 99, of Paige, Texas, were held on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Giddings with Rev. Jeremy Walloch officiating.

Olefia Bertha Augusta Maass was born on September 10, 1917 in Lee County, Texas to Ernest and Bertha (Albrecht) Maass. She was the second child in a family of ten. She was baptized on March 10, 1918 and confirmed on April 10, 1933 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Giddings. Her confirmation verse was 1 Corinthians 6:20, “For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” She attended school at Good Hope until the 7th grade when she had to drop out to take care of her siblings when her mother became ill. Olefia married Alwin G. Saegert on November 6, 1938 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Giddings.

She loved flowers, even as a child, and always had pretty flowerbeds. When she got a lawn mower, especially the riding mower, you could usually find her mowing. She enjoyed deer hunting, tending to her cattle and dancing. Olefia cherished the time when her family was together, especially at Christmas and the annual Easter egg hunt at her house which continued up until last year. She was proud of her daughters and extremely proud of each and every one of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She welcomed her step grandchildren into the family and treated each of them as one of her own. She was a lifelong member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Giddings. She lived in the Hills Community near Paige for 75 years before moving into Oakland Manor Nursing Center in Giddings in October of 2013.
