Billy James Barnes

Funeral Services for Billy James Barnes, 81, of Paige were held on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at Ridgeway Baptist Church in Paige with Rev. Jack Gilmore officiating.

Billy was born on November 25, 1935 in Austin, Texas to James Lincoln Barnes and Ida Opal (Davis) Barnes. Billy served our country in the United States Army from July 1, 1955 until being honorably discharged on June 12, 1958.

He was united in marriage to Johnnie Faye Morrison on December 25, 1960 in Manor, Texas. This union was blessed with five children, Clayton, Glen, Derrick, Brenda and Lisa. Billy was a postal clerk for the United States Postal Service. Billy was a Deacon at Walnut Creek Baptist Church in Austin for at least 20 years. His hobbies were farming and ranching. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed writing and playing songs, as well as writing poetry, and was even published in the Texas Lawman Magazine. His family will remember him for his sense of humor. Billy passed away the evening of Friday, December 16, 2016 at his residence in Paige.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James & Ida Barnes; his daughter, Lisa Lynn Barnes; his grandson, Kyle Barnes, and two brothers, Melvin Barnes and Steve Barnes.

Billy is survived by his wife of 55 years, Johnnie Faye Barnes of Paige; four children, Clayton Barnes and his wife, Sue of Hutto, Glen Barnes and his wife, Audrey of Pflugerville, Derrick Barnes and his wife, Diana of Arkadelphia, Arkansas, and Brenda Keller and her husband, Allen of Austin; twelve grandchildren; Heather, Jeremy, Leisha, Dylan, Brandy, James, Chris, Corey, Dustin, Nikki, Bryan and Madison; sixteen great grandchildren; two sisters; Carolyn Barnes of Bastrop and Janet Adams of Bastrop, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
