Marvin Herold Kurio

Funeral services for Marvin Kurio, 84 of Serbin, Texas were held Friday, July 15, 2016 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin, Texas with Rev. John Schmidt officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Marvin Herold Kurio was born on November 1, 1931 in Serbin to Carl & Marie (Matthijetz) Kurio. He was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin on November 8, 1931 by Rev. Herman Schmidt. He was confirmed on March 25, 1945 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin by Rev. Herman Schmidt. His confirmation verse was 1 John 5:4 “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith”.

He was united in marriage to Dorothy (Weiser) Kurio on October 9, 1954 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Dennis, Cliff, Joyce and Kathleen.

He was employed and retired from Lindsey Auto Electric in Austin after 42 years.

Marvin and Dorothy were members of Hope Lutheran Church in Austin before moving back to Serbin. He was a member of the South Lee County Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin, where he served as an elder. He also was a member of Bassmasters fishing club.

He enjoyed Playing 42 and Wahoo. He enjoyed going to the Lone Star Opry with his daughter, Joyce.

Marvin passed away the evening of Monday, July 11, 2016 at Oakland Manor Nursing Home in Giddings.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy Kurio and his in-laws, Karl and Clara Weiser.

Marvin is survived by his four children, Dennis & Betty Kurio of Austin, Cliff & Wanda Kurio of Austin, Joyce Jenke of Serbin and Kathleen & Jim Bob Bigon of Northrup; six grandchildren, Meghan Jenke and her fiancée, Patrick Lange of Bryan, Kyle Jenke and his fiancée, Katie Turner of Giddings, Peyton & Julie Kurio of Pflugerville, Shawn Bigon of Northrup, Stacy & Mike Galbreath of Round Rock and Brian & Jill Westberry of Austin; three great grandchildren, Miranda Westberry of Austin, Carissa Galbreath of Austin and Anthony Galbreath of Austin; brother, Albert & Delores Kurio of Austin; brother-in-law, Alton & Paula Weiser of Serbin; two sisters-in-law, LaVern Weiser of Serbin and Delores Pietsch of Gatesville, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were Mike Urban, Kenneth Kurio, Floyd Kurio, Dale Weiser, Kenneth Matthijetz, and Mack Lindsey. Honorary pallbearers were Kyle Jenke, Peyton Kurio, Julie Kurio, Shawn Bigon, Meghan Jenke, Katie Turner, Patrick Lange, Beverly Malke, Douglas Malke, Dennis Zoch and the members of the South Lee County Volunteer Fire Department.
