Ernst Delbert Rackel

Funeral Services for Ernst Delbert Rackel, 81, of Houston, were held Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings with Ricky Spacek officiating. Burial followed in the Giddings City Cemetery.

Ernst Delbert Rackel was born on March 3, 1935 in Lincoln, Texas to William R. Rackel and Amanda (Iselt) Rackel. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Lincoln and worked as a sheet rocker in Houston for many years. He enjoyed playing his accordion, watching game shows, fishing and supporting the Texas Education Fund. Delbert passed away the afternoon of Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at his home in Houston.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Lawrence Rackel, Elmo Rackel and William “Bill” Rackel and a grandson, Garret Rackel.

Delbert is survived by two sons, William “Billy” Rackel II & his wife, Donna of Houston and Tim Rackel & his wife, Dawn of Houston; two daughters, Paula Lentz & her husband, David of Leander and Darla Henehan & her husband, Tony of Danbury; eight grandchildren, William “Trey” Rackel III of Houston, Amanda Rackel of Houston, Timothy Rackel & his wife, Ashley of Houston, Travis McNicholas of Humble, Tara Kissee & her husband, Scott of San Antonio, Tiffany McNicholas of Cedar Park, Tommy Ward III & his wife Lindsay of The Woodlands and Payton Whatley & her husband, Shane of Alabama; eight great grandchildren; one sister, Janice Lindsay of Ralls; one brother, Clarence “Rocky” Rackel of Tyler; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth “Lizzie” Rackel of Loebau and Elyne Rackel of Lincoln, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be made to the OMSLife Foundation or to the charity of one’s choice.
