Daisy Mae Davis

Funeral services for Daisy Mae Davis, 77, of Dime Box, Texas, are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at the Bateman Memorial Center in Giddings with Rev. G.B. Coleman of Rising Star Baptist Church in Dime Box officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the Antioch Cemetery in Ledbetter, Texas. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 17, 2016 from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings.

Daisy Mae (Jarmon) Davis was born on September 18, 1938 in Dime Box, Texas, the daughter of Howard Jarmon Sr. & Willie Lou (Simmons) Jarmon. She grew up in the Dime Box area and attended the Fairview School in Dime Box. Daisy Mae was united in marriage to Ollie Burns Jr. and ten children were born to their union. Later in her life, she married Urias Davis. Daisy Mae worked at the Chair Factory in Caldwell and also worked as a housekeeper for Texas Home Health for several years. She was an active and longtime member of Rising Star Baptist Church in Dime Box where she sang with the mass choir and served as an usher. Daisy Mae always gave the best welcome to visitors in church and made everyone feel at home. She was always social and cordial to everyone she met. She enjoyed gardening, and fishing held a special place in her heart. Her greatest joy was in raising and taking care of her family.

Daisy Mae passed away the morning of Saturday, June 11, 2016 at her home in Dime Box.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard & Willie Jarmon Sr.; her husband, Urias Davis; four sons, Louis James Burns, Marshall Wayne Burns, Marvin Wayne Burns and one in infancy; three grandsons, Kenneth Wayne Clemons, Pernell Andre Burns and Jeremy Burns; four sisters, Bertha Edwards, Ruby Lee Turner, Alice Faye Basey and Odessa Thomas; two brothers, Robert Jarmon and Edward Jarmon, and one son-in-law, Thomas Calloway.

Daisy Mae is survived by her six children, Ollie Calloway & Darrell Wilson of Dime Box, Freddy Burns & Ann Mack of Dime Box, Jerry & Reva Burns of Giddings, Ella & Isaac Godfrey of Dime Box, James Burns of Dime Box and Calvin & Eliza Burns of Bellville; fifteen grandchildren; twenty nine great grandchildren; three great, great grandchildren; three sisters, Lucy Darden of Fayetteville, Ruthie Washington of Caldwell and Ola Mae & Greg Sterling of Austin; three brothers, Howard & Josephine Jarmon Jr. of Houston, Melvin Collier of Giddings and Alfred Simmons of Houston; two brothers-in-law, August Thomas of Austin and Ira Basey of Ledbetter as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be Freddy Burns, Jerry Burns, James Burns, Calvin Burns, Roosevelt Riggins and Clyde Roberson. Honorary pallbearers will be Darrell Wilson, Roy Lee Bell, Robert Lewis, Isaiha Burns, Charles Straughter and Gregory Bell.

Memorials may be made to the Lee County Cancer Resource Center, 165 West Austin Street, Giddings, Texas 78942 or to the charity of one’s choice.
