Calvin Gerhard Markert

Funeral Services for Calvin Gerhard Markert, 85 of Dime Box, were held for 10:00 A.M. on Monday January 18, 2016 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings with Rev. Tab Ottmers officiating. Graveside services will follow in the Markert Family Cemetery in Dime Box, Texas. Military honors were provided by the Giddings American Legion Post 276.

Calvin Gerhard Markert was born on February 14,1930 in Manheim, Texas, the son of Gerhard Otto Markert and Estella (Fritsche) Markert. He served in the U.S. Army until his honorable discharge. Calvin was united in marriage to Ruth Anna Johanna Weiser on November 29, 1953 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings. They were blessed with 3 children, Rose, Dennis and Diana. Calvin was a Farmer. Calvin enjoyed wood working, traveling, carpentry work, anything that involved Agriculture and he enjoyed time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Calvin passed away the evening of January 13, 2016 in Brenham.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruth, 4 Brothers and 1 Sister.

Calvin is survived by 3 children: Rose Roberts & her husband David of Prosper, Dennis & his wife Cindy of Dime Box and Diana Knodt and her husband Tom of Brenham; 8 Grandchildren: Emily and Tab Ottmers of McKinney, Nathan & Valerie Markert of College Station, Erich & Leigh Ann Roberts of Kansas, Elissa & Patrik Mattle of Colorado, Aaron & Aimee Markert of Dime Box, Annchen Knodt of North Carolina, Rebekah & Clayton Wickel of Brenham and Anya & James Nebl of Illinois; 10 Great Grandchildren Olivia Ottmers, Jackson Ottmers, Marshall Ottmers, Addison Markert, Kallie Markert, Keith David Roberts, Walker Roberts,Adley Markert, Avery Markert, Hailey Wickel; Sister Glenda Lehmann of Houston; also survived by his faithful dog Rocky and numerous nieces,nephews,cousins and extended family.
