Paul Gerhard Zoch

Funeral services for Paul Zoch, 91 of Serbin, Texas, were held Sunday, January 10, 2016 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin with Rev. John Schmidt officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the Giddings American Legion York Post 276, followed in the church cemetery.

Paul Gerhard Zoch was born on January 19, 1924 in Warda, Texas to Carl Ernst Zoch and Anna Augusta (Hanusch) Zoch. He was baptized on February 3, 1924 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Warda by Rev. Gottfried Buchschacher and confirmed on March 21, 1937 also at Holy Cross Lutheran Church by Rev. Paul C. Eifert. His confirmation verse was 2 Timothy 2:8, “ Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel”. Paul served in the United States Army during WWII and received his Honorable Discharge on March 24, 1946, having obtained the rank of Private First Class. He was united in marriage to Esther Irene Becker on June 8, 1947 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin by Rev. Herman Schmidt. Their union was blessed with four children, Carolyn, Ralph, Larry and Linda. Paul worked as a carpenter for M & M Lumber and Gaeke Construction for several years and he and Esther owned and operated Zoch’s Laundry in Giddings for 23 years. He was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin where he had held several offices and positions throughout the years. He was also a member of the Giddings American Legion York Post 276 and the Giddings VFW Post 4475. Paul enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, traveling, farming and ranching.

Paul passed away the afternoon of Thursday, January 7, 2016 at St. Mark’s Medical Center in La Grange.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl & Anna Zoch; his wife of 63 years, Esther Zoch; two sons-in-law, Royce Noack and Randy Meyer Sr.; one granddaughter, Jennifer Meyer; two great grandsons, Blake Zoch and Frederick Fisher Jr. and fifteen brothers and sisters.

Paul is survived by four children, Carolyn Noack of Northrup, Ralph & Nancy Zoch of Giddings, Larry & Patricia Zoch of Fayetteville, NC and Linda Meyer of Serbin; eleven grandchildren, Connie & Chris Becker of Serbin, Tracy & Gary Oltmann of Northrup, Todd & Hannah Zoch of Blue, Shelley & Derek Denham of Wiley, Brandon & Gretchen Zoch of Murphysboro, NC, Bryce & Heather Zoch of Fayetteville, NC, Nicholas & Amy Zoch of Fayetteville, NC, Cathlyn & Shawn Foraker of Eastover, NC, Rose & Philip Tharp of Serbin, Randy & Marilyn Meyer, Jr. of Serbin
