Waldemar Iselt

Funeral services for Waldemar “Shorty” Iselt, 89 of Dime Box, Texas, were held Friday, December 11, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Old Dime Box, Texas with Rev. David Loeffler officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the Giddings American Legion York Post 276, followed in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Dime Box.

Waldemar Arthur Iselt was born on November 30, 1926 in Fedor, Texas to Martin & Clara (Schulze) Iselt. He was baptized on December 12, 1926 at Christ Lutheran Church in Loebau, Texas by Rev. Carl Durow and confirmed on July 5, 1942 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Old Dime Box, Texas by Rev. Herbert Hartfield. His confirmation verse was Psalm 37:4, “Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart”. Shorty attended Dime Box High School where he played tennis. He was drafted three months before his high school graduation and joined the U.S. Air Force on March 29, 1945. He served during WWII and obtained his Honorable Discharge on September 24, 1946 earning the rank of Private First Class. He was united in marriage to Hermine Stelter on January 29, 1948 at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Manheim, Texas by Rev. Paul Brust. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Sylvia, Gary and Barbara. Shorty worked as a blacksmith and welder in the Dime Box area for many years and also owned Shorty’s Ice. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Old Dime Box and was a former member of the Dime Box Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed turkey shoots, playing poker, playing baseball, gardening and was also a peanut farmer for many years.

Shorty passed away the evening of Monday, December 7, 2015 following a brief stay at the Burleson St. Joseph Manor in Caldwell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin & Clara Iselt; his son-in-law, Larry Tullos and his parentsin law, Heinrich & Meta Stelter.

Shorty is survived by his wife of 67 years, Hermine Iselt of Dime Box; three children, Sylvia Tullos of Lufkin, Gary Iselt & his wife, Beverly of Lexington and Barbara Falke & her husband, Gary of Dime Box; three grandchildren, Kevin Tullos of Lufkin, Joy Tullos of Lufkin and Craig Iselt of College Station; several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; brother, Erwin A. Iselt & his wife, Magdalene of Dime Box; brother-in-law, Walter Stelter & his wife, Ingrid of Germany, as well as several nieces and nephews.
