Gladys Marie Mathes

Funeral services for Gladys Marie Mathes, 87 of Temple, were held Saturday, November 21, 2015 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Burial followed in the Early Chapel Cemetery near Lexington. Rev. Ken Ansell of Rockdale Full Gospel Church officiated.

Gladys Marie Mathes was born November 14, 1928 in Manning, Texas to George and Millicent (Sandstrum) Owens. She and Leo Alsey Mathes were married. Gladys was a homemaker who enjoyed her coffee, gardening, watching her soap operas and Evangelists on TV. She also enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren and shopping. Gladys was raised in Manning, then moved to Lexington for 37 years, then 10 years in Gonzales and the past two years in Temple.

Gladys passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at her home in Temple. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Alsey Mathes; two sisters, Loyce Jones and Irene Abshire, and a brother, Marshall Owens.

Surviving are her two daughters, Wonell Stifflemire of Temple and Sharon Harrell of Dallas; Seven grandchildren, Cheryl Stifflemire, Denise Larsen, Richard Stifflemire, Ronnie Buford, Rhonda Stifflemire, Leonard Stifflemire and Melison Rumelt; Ten greatgrandchildren, Christian Maze, Madeliene Larsen, Dylan Buford, Connor Stifflemire, Ryleigh Stifflemire, Marshall Buford, Jarod Pierce, Katherine Pierce, Emmy Pierce and Jackson Stifflemire.

Attending her as pallbearers were Brady Ramsey, Andy Rumelt, Leonard Stifflemire, Todd Larsen, Bob Larsen, Ronald Buford and Christian Maze.
