Johann “Hans” Stockl

Funeral services for Johann “Hans” Stockl, 87 of Giddings, were held Monday, October 26, 2015 at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Giddings, with Father James Olnhausen officiating.

Johann “Hans” Stockl was born on November 21, 1927 in St. Johann, Austria, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Strasser) Stockl.

He served in the Austrian Army during World War II and received his discharge in 1945 after obtaining the rank of Private. He was the founder of the Alpine Mountain Rescue in Austria.

Hans married Anna Perfler on May 1, 1947 in Austria. Their union was blessed with two children, Elfriede and Johann.

Hans worked at Baroid in Houston for many years where he erected mud manufacturing plants overseas.

After his retirement, he worked at Lee County Ace Hardware in Giddings. He enjoyed mountain climbing and astronomy. He was a jack of all trades, and an excellent mechanic.

Hans passed away during the early morning hours of Thursday, October 22, 2015 at his home in Giddings.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 56 years, Anna Stockl; his son, Johann G. Stockl; two brothers and three sisters.

Hans is survived by his daughter, Elfriede Stockl of Giddings and four grandchildren, Ariel Stockl, Samantha Stockl, Victoria Stockl and Juan Stockl, all of Chile.
