Rita Lynn Stephens

Rita (Lynn) Stephens was born on February 19, 1952 in Pasadena, Texas to John Martin “J.M.” Lynn and Gladys O’Nell (Simmons) Lynn. She graduated from Pasadena High School and attended San Jacinto College. She retired from the City of Houston where she had been employed as a Senior Supervisor in the Public Works Department. Rita attended Tanglewood Baptist Church and was a member of the Red Hat Society in Lexington and the Lexington Garden Club. She was also a Stampin’ Up demonstrator. Rita was a creative, artistic and crafty person who could make anything from absolutely nothing. She took ordinary paper items and created greeting cards, stationary and gifts. She also enjoyed painting and gardening.

Rita passed away, surrounded by her family, at her home in Lexington the afternoon of Tuesday, September 29, 2015 following a battle with cancer.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Gladys Lynn in 2009.

Rita is survived by her father, J.M. Lynn of Lexington; her husband and companion for the past 23 years, Billy Stephens, Jr. of Lexington; her two daughters and sons-in-law, Crystal & Rick Klepetko of Crosby and Mandy & Robert Schank of Deer Park; three grandchildren, Rachel and Jonathan Klepetko of Crosby and Colton Lovelace of Deer Park; two sisters, Katherine Carter of Giddings and Teresa Sturm of Cedar Creek; her mother-in-law, Billie Stephens-Jones of Humble; three sisters-in-law, Jennifer Brady & her husband, Johnny of Alexandria, LA, Barbara Cates & her husband, Ricky of Huffman and Kathy Troutman & her husband, Darrell of Humble, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Rita Stephens, were on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Lexington with Pastor David Atwood officiating. Burial followed in the Hugh Wilson Cemetery in Tanglewood, Texas.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
