Lorenz Martin Schimank

Lorenz Martin Schimank was born on December 15, 1923 in Fedor, Texas to Emil & Martha (Becker) Schimank. He was baptized on December 25, 1923 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Fedor by Rev. William Seidel and was confirmed on April 10, 1938 also at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Fedor by Rev. A.F. Michalk.

He began serving in the U.S. Army on July 25, 1944 and received his Honorable Discharge on June 20, 1946 having obtained the rank of Corporal. Lorenz was united in marriage to Ruth Margarete Kappler on November 10, 1946 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Fedor. He worked for Cargill Nutrena in Giddings for many years and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Lorenz enjoyed gardening, taking care of his cattle, playing dominoes and hunting and fishing. He lived for his grandchildren and great grandchildren and was proud of the individuals they had each become.

Lorenz passed away the evening of Thursday, September 3, 2015 at his home in Giddings.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil & Martha Schimank; his wife of 66 years, Ruth Schimank; his daughter, Frances Krause, and four brothers, Edmund Schimank & his wife, Clara, Edgar Schimank & his wife, Lydia, Winfred Schimank and Victor Schimank & his wife, Mary.

Lorenz is survived by his two daughters, Helen Simmons of Bastrop and Nancy Handrick & her husband, Charles of Buda; five grandchildren, Justin Krause & his wife, Meri of Buda, Nick Simmons & his wife, Amy of Windsor, Colorado, Keith Handrick & his wife, Maranda of Buda, Marcus Krause & his wife, Tacy of Buda and Stacy Woolery & her husband, R.C. of Liberty Hill; nine great grandchildren, Jordyn & Dylan Becker of Windsor, Colorado, Hunter & Brooke Krause of Buda, Makensie & Balen Handrick of Buda, Madison & R.C. Woolery of Liberty Hill and Brynnley Krause of Buda; two brothers, Gilbert Schimank & his wife, Dorothy of Lexington and Clarence Schimank & his wife, Jane of Fedor; one sister-in-law, Elsie Schimank of Giddings, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were September 7, 2015 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings with Rev. Robert Tiner officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the Giddings American Legion York Post 276, followed in the Giddings City Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Justin Krause, Marcus Krause, Keith Handrick, R.C. Woolery, Nick Simmons and Charles Handrick.
