Marcy Nelson

Sheryl Marcia Laborde Nelson, 60, of Beaukiss, passed away at home in the wee morning hours on August 4, 2015, from leiomyosarcoma, in the arms of her husband, Alan, and with her hand on her canine best friend, Rae.

Marcy, as she was known by all, was born in Houston, Texas on December 4, 1954. She was baptized at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church on January 23, 1955. First Communion was received on May 13,1962 and she was confirmed on April 19, 1964.

She was united in marriage to Alan Walter Nelson, Jr. on June 23, 2007. She is survived by her parents, E.J. and Lois Laborde, Jr. of Austin; sisters, Ellen West, Bridget Schmal and Maureen Light; her children, Traci Lowes and Cliff Tooley, as well as her step children, Zachary Nelson, Talon Nelson and Taylor Nelson; grandchildren, Peyton and Brennan Lowes and Harper Tooley, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and her beloved Black Lab, Rae.

Marcy was a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin in 1979. She taught Physical Education in the Round Rock Independent School District for over 30 years, leaving a legacy with her unique stamp on the many minds of the students that she touched.

An avid horsewoman, trail rider and bird hunter, she never met a stranger, whether canine, equine, or human. With her twinkling eyes, quick smile, adventurous nature, she was slow to anger and quick to love. All were welcome and she thought of others first. Marcy had a positive life force that flowed freely to everyone. She was happiest in the company of her dog Rae, her husband Alan, in a duck marsh, on horseback, happily chatting on a trail ride surrounded by her “trail riding family” with maybe a beer in her hand or a bit of Twailwide wine. She will be deeply missed by all.

Her memorial service is pending.

Memorials in lieu of flowers can be sent to Hospice Austin, Christopher House, or Lee County Area Cancer Resource Center, or sign up a child for a Greenwing membership at Ducks Unlimited.
