Newman Barney Rankin

Newman Barney Rankin was born on July 10, 1942 in Dime Box, Texas to Barney William Rankin and Norma Louise (Leitko) Rankin. He graduated from Dime Box High School and worked as an engineering inspector in the Houston area for many years. Newman was baptized, confirmed, and a lifelong member at Trinity Lutheran Church in Old Dime Box. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors. Newman passed away during the early morning hours of Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Scott & White Hospital in College Station.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Barney & Norma Rankin, and his sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy & Alton Peters.

Newman is survived by his two sons, Dwayne Rankin of Houston and Dwayne’s mother, Marilyn Bolin of Center Point, and Brandon Rankin & his wife, Suzanne, & Brandon’s mother, Rita Schneider, all of Brenham; four grandchildren, Kristen Rankin Ludwig of Houston and Tyler, Nathan & Ashlin Rankin of Brenham; one great granddaughter, Layla Ludwig of Houston, and two nephews, Charles Peters & his wife, Karen, of Deanville and Brian Peters of Fredericksburg.

Funeral services were Friday, June 12, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Old Dime Box, Texas with Rev. David Loeffler officiating. Burial followed in St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Dime Box.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or to the charity of one’s choice.
