James Verlon (J.P.) Pollard

Memorial services for James Verlon (J.P.) Pollard, 85, of Lincoln, Texas are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings, TX.

James Verlon Pollard was born on October 22, 1929 in Elizabeth, La. to Gilbert Ivy Pollard and Dell (Perkins) Pollard. He was united in marriage to Virginia Galipp at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Manheim, Tx. J.P. served in the navy from 1951 until 1953 when he was honorably discharged. He went on to have many different careers in his lifetime such as tire sales, professional mover for Central Moving in Austin Tx., owner of Elm Creek Inn Restaurant in Lincoln, Tx., and cattle rancher. J.P. loved gardening and loved sharing the fruits of his labor with all his friends and neighbors. In the recent years he enjoyed riding around the pasture on his Mule checking on his cattle. J.P. was an avid sponsor of the Elm Creek Long Necks baseball team. He spent a lot of time feeding his fish and playing with Buddy, the neighbor’s dog. He was always a busy man that helped others at a drop of a hat. He enjoyed barbecuing and making his famous Baby Back ribs for all of us.

J.P. passed away the afternoon of Saturday, January 3, 2015 at St. Marks Medical Center in La Grange, TX after two complicated surgeries.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Bell Pollard and his beloved wife, Virginia.

He is survived by his beloved friend, Vallie Jatzlau of Giddings; beloved children, Susan Jatzlau of Giddings, Tim and wife, Sharra Jatzlau of Round Rock, and Polly and husband, Troy Cantu of Hutto; beloved grandchildren, Samantha Jatzlau of Round Rock, Addison Cantu of Hutto, and Troy Shugart of Round Rock; and also by special friends and neighbors, Ken and wife, Cheryl Simmons, Lynn and wife, Bitsy Eichler, Carol and husband, Tom Kieschnick, James and wife, Delores Eichler as well as many extended nieces and nephews.

Memorials have been requested to be given to the Lee County Cancer Resource Center or the charity of one’s choice.
