Rex Paskett

January 3, 1940 - March 6, 2014

Alan Rex Paskett was born January 3, 1940, to Frank and Ollie Holman Paskett in Dallas, Texas. He was called to his Heavenly Home on March 6, 2014.

He began playing the piano at an early age at the encouragement of his dear mother. He knew he wanted to share his love for music with others, so he attended Concordia High School and Concordia Lutheran Junior College in Austin, Texas where his love for music led him to meet Glenda. He finished his degree in Education & Administration at Concordia Lutheran College in Seward, Nebraska and returned back to Texas to marry Glenda on June 16, 1962 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Houston.

Rex and Glenda served many Lutheran churches and schools as principal, teacher and organist. They followed the Lord’s calling to teach at St. John Lutheran School in Lincoln, Texas where they welcomed their first-born, Robert Paul. They then received a call to teach at St. John Lutheran in Corpus Christi, Texas where they were blessed with two daughters, Suzan Hope and Melinda Faith.

Later, Rex served as Director of Christian Education at Concordia Lutheran and Our Redeemer Lutheran in Houston. The Lord led their family back to Lee County to serve as principal of St. Paul Lutheran School in Serbin, Texas in 1987. After retiring from Lutheran church work, he found a talent and fascination for electronics and was fortunate to manage Radio Shack in Giddings for almost nineteen years. He always felt that Lee County was their home and they should have never left so many years before.

Rex was preceded in death by his father, Frank Paskett; his mother, Ollie Holman Paskett; his stepfather Les Zellers and his special cousins, that he considered his chosen siblings, Sammy Riley, Delores Williams and David Sawyer.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Glenda Peterson Paskett; his son, Robert Paskett of Sanger; his daughters and sons-in-law, Suzan Winkelman and husband Lennie of Walburg, Texas, Melinda “Lyndy” Krause and husband Curtis of Giddings, Texas, and Melodi Oltmann and husband Craig of Serbin, Texas; grandchildren, Calee Paskett of Kingwood, Texas, Tristan Winkelman and Austin Winkelman both of Walburg, Texas, Parker Krause and Kimberlyn Krause both of Giddings, Texas, Payton Oltmann and Grant Oltmann both of Serbin, Texas, Skyler O’Connell of Houston, and Jessica Travis of Humble; his special cousins, Deborah Sawyer, Captain Lou and Judy Hoffman; lifelong friends Jim and Judy Johnson and family, as well as many cousins, classmates, students, choir and band mates and cherished friends.

Committal services were Saturday, March 15, 2014 at the Giddings City Cemetery with Rev. Keith Aschenbeck and Rev. Robert Tiner officiating. A service to celebrate his life followed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings. Pallbearers were Parker Krause, Payton Oltmann, Tristan Winkelman, Austin Winkelman, Grant Oltmann, Keith Pavelka, Mark Schatte, Randy Taylor and William Williams.

Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran School, 300 North Grimes, Giddings, 78942, or to Concordia High School, 1500 A Royston Lane, Round Rock, Texas 78664.
