Juanita Shelton Sorrell

April 8, 1923 - March 14, 2014

Funeral services for Juanita Sorrell, 90, of Giddings are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Giddings with Pastor Tim Clayton officiating. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Clover Hill Cemetery in Lott, Texas.

Juanita was born on April 8, 1923 in Lott, Texas to Lee and Claudie (McGaw) Shelton. She married David Sorrell on March 17, 1978 and was a retired bookkeeper for Texas Commerce Bank in Houston. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Giddings where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She enjoyed traveling, attending family reunions, visiting with family and friends, taking care of her cat Whiskers, was an excellent cook and always won when she played train. Though Juanita never had children of her own, she considered her nieces and nephews her children and they loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands, B.C. Stricklin and David Sorrell; her brothers, Clarence, Carl, D.T., Jim, Eugene, Homer, Virgil and Clyde Shelton and her sisters, Doris Nettles and Ruby Biel.

Juanita is survived by her nieces, Claudie K. Shelton of Lott, Charlotte Self Vance of Giddings and Tammy C. Pirtle of Dripping Springs; nephews, Wallace Nettles of DeSoto, Ron Shelton & his wife Sue of Waskom, Walter Lee Biel & his wife Lynne of Dripping Springs, and Daniel Shelton & his wife Lydia of Cold Springs; her caregiver, Stephanie Shelton of Lott and numerous step children, step grandchildren and other extended family members.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Giddings or to the American Heart Association.
