Dustin Pickel

April 27, 2010 - March 4, 2014

Dustin John Pickel was born April 27, 2010 in Austin to his loving parents, Jeff and Kelly (Shoemake) Pickel. He was their middle son, who, with his family’s help, fought a long and courageous battle with cancer, which ended in his parents’ arms on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at their home in Rockdale.

Dustin, with his family, lived in Rockdale since June of 2013, and previously lived in Round Rock. During his 3 years, he made a huge number of friends, attended St. John’s United Methodist Church, and became an honorary member of Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department.

Dustin is survived by his mom and dad, Jeff and Kelly Pickel of Rockdale; his big brother, Braden Pickel and his little brother, Collin Pickel of Rockdale; maternal grandparents, John and Sharon Shoemake of Rockdale; paternal grandparents, Timothy and Sherry Pickel of Meredith, New Hampshire; aunts and uncles, Kirby Shoemake and wife Kristy and their daughters Morgan and Molly all of Georgetown, Beth Doda and husband Pierre and their children Joey, Hayley and Emily all of Meredith, New Hampshire; several great aunts and great uncles and cousins, including Wenda Dyer of Rockdale and Michael and Susan Laramie of Laconia, New Hampshire, along with many close family friends, especially Janet and Walter Pond; let’s not forget his companion at home, his cat Georgie.

Services for Dustin were 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014 at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Rockdale. Burial followed in I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Pastor Adam Straznicky of St. John’s United Methodist Church and John Shoemake officiated.

Pallbearers were Kirby Shoemake, Walter Pond, Keith Laramie, Wes Goggans, Reagan Sivadon, Michael Laramie, and honorary pallbearers were members of the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department.
