Darlene Theresa Ehler

Mrs. Ehler passed away the evening of Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at St. David’s Medical Center in Austin.

Darlene Theresa (Steahr) Ehler was born on February 23, 1945 in Brenham, Texas to Alfred & Tracy (Pohorelsky) Steahr. She was baptized into the Baptist faith in June of 1958. Darlene graduated from Giddings High School in 1963 and her first job was working for the City of Giddings in City Hall under City Manager R.A. Toler. She married Olin Ehler on February 27, 1965. Darlene and Olin lived in Pflugerville for many years where she worked in the Pflugerville school systems while her sons were young. She later went to work for First State Bank in Pflugerville. Darlene was active in the American Cancer Society for many years, and was involved in establishing a library for the Pflugerville community. She was also active in the Pflugerville Deutschenfest and was actively involved in her sons’ sporting and school activities.

In 1986, Darlene and Olin moved back to Giddings where Darlene assisted in the care of her parents for several years. She was employed by the Texas Department of Public Safety in Austin until her own health began to deteriorate. She enjoyed flower gardening and raising vegetables, and loved to cook and preserve fruits and vegetables. Her hobbies included hunting, fishing and crocheting, and she enjoyed the time she spent with her family and friends.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred & Tracy Steahr.

She is survived by her husband, Olin Ehler of Giddings; two sons, Jason Ehler of Giddings and Mark Ehler & his wife, Linda of Giddings; her grandson, Justin Ehler of Pflugerville; four step grandchildren, Vincent Ha and Cindy Ha both of Pflugerville, and Andrea Butschek and Blain Butschek, both of Giddings; two step great grandchildren, Aliya and Jaxyn both of Giddings; her sister, Sandra Hamff & her husband, Wesley of Brenham; her brother, Alfred Steahr Jr. of Giddings; her brother-in-law, Lee Ehler & his wife, Jean of La Grange, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Giddings with Paul Tanner officiating. Burial followed in the Giddings City Cemetery.
