Woodrow “Woody” Burgess, Jr.

Funeral services for Woodrow “Woody” Burgess, Jr., 79 are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 14, 2013 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home with burial in the Forest Grove Cemetery in the Forest Grove Community. Pastor James Diamond of Cedar Crest Christian Church in Sulphur Springs, Pastor Lance Walch and Jim Platt of Forest Grove Christian Church will officiate. Visitation is 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home.

Woodrow Burgess, Jr. was born September 17, 1934 in Milano to Mittie Ann (Haddox) and Woodrow W. Burgess, Sr. They lived in Milano until he finished the second grade. They then moved to Rockdale where he was a lifelong resident of Rockdale and the area, and the past 35 years in Forest Grove. Woody was a 1953 graduate of Rockdale High School, he served in the U.S. Army, was a member of Forest Grove Christian Church, enjoyed gardening, ranching, woodwork and fishing.

On May 25, 1957, he and Mary Elizabeth Owens were married in Rockdale. To this union two sons were born. Woody passed away Sunday, November 10, 2013 in the Winnie L. Nursing and Rehabilitation in Cameron. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving family are his wife of 56 years, Mary Burgess of Forest Grove; their sons, Stanley Burgess and wife Theresa of Milano and Troy Burgess of Dallas; Brother, Jimmy Burgess and wife Delanie of Cameron; three sisters, Jo Ann Coldiron and husband Bobby of Milano, Patricia Lou Moody and husband Harry of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Vivian Collier and husband John of Rockdale; three grandchildren, Huston Burgess of Milano, Amber Brooks and husband J.C. of Rockdale and Meagan Brantley and husband Cyler of Milano; and two greatgrandchildren, Hadley Brooks and Hunter Brantley.
