Helen Michalk Grundman

November 9, 1916 - October 17, 2013

Helen Clementine (Michalk) Grundman was born on November 9, 1916 near Lexington, Texas to Charles Henry & Clementine Emma (Koenning) Michalk. She graduated from Giddings High School and was united in marriage to Edwin Burl “Stingy” Grundman on December 6, 1941 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Giddings. They were married for over 42 years when he died on April 8, 1984. Helen was a retired clerk with the State of Texas Industrial Accident Board. She enjoyed playing 42 and Canasta, attending family reunions and gatherings and traveling with her nieces and nephews on family vacations. Helen was a faithful Astros fan and loved watching professional baseball. One of her highlights was traveling to New York in 2008 and watching a Yankees baseball game.

Helen passed away the morning of Thursday, October 17, 2013 at the Brenham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles & Clementine Michalk; her husband Edwin “Stingy” Grundman; five brothers, Andrew Michalk, Edgar Michalk, Clarence Michalk and two as infants, and three sisters, Hulda Foerster, Dora Marburger and one in infancy.

Helen is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Herbert (Bubba) & Ima Jo Michalk of Giddings; sister-in-law, Ella Michalk of Taylor; brother-in-law, Edgar Wiederhold of Giddings, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Funeral services were on Monday, October 21, 2013 at St. John Lutheran Church in Dime Box, Texas with Rev. Roger Millheim officiating. Burial followed in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery.

The family recommends that memorials be made to the St. John Lutheran Cemetery, 8235 FM 141, Dime Box, Texas 77853 or to the charity of one’s choice.
