The 8th grade Eagles faced Jarrell on Thursday night in Lexington. The Eagles walked away with a 34 – 0 victory. The Eagle offense and defense scored on big yardage plays, and, once again, the Eagle defense shut down the opponent. Dylan Dominy, Tanner Meuth and Cache Garrett each recovered a Jarrell fumble. This was Dominy’s second fumble recovery in as many games.

The Eagles first score came in the 1st quarter on a fumble recovery. The Jarrell quarterback attempted a lateral pass to their wide receiver. Tanner Meuth picked it up and ran 54 yards for the score. Walker Hess ran in the 2 point conversion for an 8 – 0 lead.

Lexington scored twice in the 2nd quarter. Walker Hess hit a wide open Colby Bexley for a 30-yard score. Hess then hit Bexley in the corner of the end zone for the 2- point conversion. Jarrell returned the Eagle kickoff to midfield. Eagle quarterback Walker Hess was injured while making the tackle and would not return to the game. Jarrell marched down the field to the Eagle 13. With less than 20 seconds remaining in the half, Cache Garrett recovered a Jarrell fumble to stop the drive. On the final play of the 1st half, Garrett, now at quarterback, hit Sam Perry along the Eagle sideline. Perry avoided two would-be tacklers, and sprinted 87 yards for the touchdown. The 2-point conversion failed and the halftime score was Lexington 22 Jarrell 0.

Neither team could produce a score in the 3rd quarter. In the 4th quarter, Tanner Meuth took a handoff from Cache Garrett and ran 55 yards for the score; the 2-point conversion failed. The final Eagle score of the game was set up by a 34-yard punt by Nate Jones to the Jarrell 13 yard line. Cache Garrett ran the final 13 yards for the score; the conversion failed. Final score: Lexington 34 Jarrell 0.

The Eagle offensive line of Wesley Sanders, Wyatt Retzlaff, Clay Iselt, Dylan Dominy and Jordan Culberson did a good job of pass protection and opening running lanes.

The 7th and 8th grade Eagles will host Hempstead on Thursday night. The 7th grade Eagles will kick off at 5:00 and the 8th grade will follow at 6:30. See you there.
