Larry Terrell, from Lexington, traveled to Las Vegas last week where he spent two days racing the new 2014 Corvette Stingray at the renowned Spring Mountain Motor Sports Ranch, where many professional race car drivers get their training.

Terrell, who has worked for Tom Light Chevrolet in Bryan for the past 11 years, was one of 40 salesmen, learning to drive the new Vet, from across the country whose dealerships have met the qualifications to sell the 2014 Corvette Stingray. Less than 30% of Chevrolet dealerships qualified, and Terrell is the lead Corvette salesman for Tom Light Chevrolet.

At one point, Terrell drove the 2014 Vet through an obstacle course, in which he said that he managed doing a 360 on the track. “My copilot told me to give it some more power through one of the curves, so I did,” said Terrell. “That’s when I sent the car into a spin. My copilot said, ‘I didn’t mean to give it that much more power.’”

On the second day, a professional driver took the lead position behind the steering wheel for a few laps while Terrell sat in the passenger seat. Terrell said, “That trip around the track was fantastic! I was white knuckled the whole way. When we finished, I asked my driver how fast he went and he said ‘I don’t look at the speedometer because I have too many other things to do, but we were clocked at going 153 mph at the 1/4 mile marker.’”

Terrell said, “Every Corvette I have sold has been a fine piece of engineering, but the 2014 Stingray is absolutely incredible. The 2014 comparison charts shows the Stingray going from 0 to 60 in 3.8 seconds, while the 2013 Porsche 911 Carrera S takes 4.3 seconds. The Stingray is just phenomenal!”

Terrell was selected to attend the school because of his exemplary customer service ratings and his sales performance over the years, having earned the prestigious Mark of Excellence Award every year since 2003. His business consists of 80% return customers and referrals. His Customer Satisfaction ratings are the highest at the dealership, with 98% of his customers giving him a perfect score after a purchase.
